Web Programming » Snippity

This is a group project from spring quarter 2006 at UCSD. It was meant to be a link and other item sharing tool sort of like del.icio.us or backpack, but it turned out to be more of an online collaboration site. It's a bit like google notebook (which was released when we were almost done with the project), but with the additional ability to make notes available for editing by other people.

I was responsible for the Ajax and the entire backend, including the database. My part of the project is documented on my class blog. This project was probably too ambitious for a single quarter, and many of the essential features did not get included in the present version (e.g. editing a "Snipp", adding images, and groups within groups). The workflow is also problematic; the site takes the user from one page to the next, but it doesn't really explain what they should be doing or why, which can be very confusing. The comments should also be redone so that there can be many comments by many people on a snipp.

Nevertheless, I'm fond of the idea behind the site and may come back to it at some point to finish it. If try it, create two accounts so that you can create snipps that the other account can view, and be forewarned that many of the features are not finished and the usability is often very lacking.
